Truth Justice & Mulberries.

The Mulberry Tree Jam//'This is Just to Say' by William Carlos Williams

I am developing an obsession for all things jam. What goes in them and what holds them. The colours & the textures of the jam, the shape & lid of the glass jar.
Oh the things I could store in a jam jar
And now when I think about jam & its sweetness & colours & speckles of seeds all I can think of is 'This is Just to Say'.

This particular jam also has something to say. It tells a beautiful story all on its own - a local single mum making mulberry jam from her mulberry tree to sell at the local street fair. Truth justice & mulberries.

Miracle on 34th Street.

I'll admit I haven't seen the original. But there is still so much to fall in love with in the remake. Dylan McDermont's huge, thick cable knit turtleneck sweaters. Elizabeth Perkin's delicate jewellery. Mara Wilson's sweater sets, plaid head bands, ribbon trim peter pan collars, coloured or lace trimed bobby socks, all elements somehow fitting in like a puzzle piece with their matching colours or plaid pattern - socks, cardigans, coats, headbands, ribbons, pinafore dresses, bows, hats. This is what it should mean to dress like a kid.  While there is definitely nothing like the buzz of an Australian Christmas (that crackling heat, the song of the cicadas, the lingering excitement in the air) I can't help but get caught up in the traditional Christmas tales of snow and sleighs, fireplaces and eggnog.

Saturdays.

Weekend outfits are always made of something else.
Like a well worn in grey tee & my year 10 formal skirt from yonders ago.

Made by local designer Susan Ottawa this skirt is everything I love about textiles. Layers and working in and out of each other and lace and silk and did I mention layers? Cloth upon cloth upon stitch upon stitch, story upon story. Like there is something waiting within the folds.

I'm dreaming of a...

I'm dreaming of a Benah bag. Suede & leather & gold hardware.
Red or black?
To buy or not to buy?

Amsterdam 2.

Taking a wander down memory lane, trawling through my photos from exchange in the Netherlands & I rediscovered my third trip to Amsterdam. Smelling the roses at Keukenhof, wandering down laneways in search of a teashop, rummaging around Waterlooplein Markets, eating pancakes galore, drinking hot tea from a glass.
The city is in abundance of little hidy holes to discover & I never did quite explore as much as I desired too. I keep thinking of all the vintage stores left untouched...

Line Sander Johansen.

line sander johansen scrap work pieces

There is something so intriguing and beautiful about morsels of delicate fabric held together by the fine line of thread, which is of course stitched by hand.

Continuing on with my love for cloth scraps, thread and stitch I'm quickly falling in love with Line Sander Johansen's work.

Revolver Cafe.

Need somewhere cosy to have brunch? Give a Revolver Cafe go.
From the food to the decor to the Revolver photo album the cafe is oozing with stories of the past. It's kind of like going to visit your really cool Nan. She's got her so retro its hip decor (check out the light fittings and the fabric on the booth seats)and she will insist you listen to the stories captured in the walls of her house and flip through her photo albums, all while serving you a cosy, rustic, colourful meal.

We had their Revolver Big Breakies (two vege and one meat) - baked eggs and housemade beans served in that rustic, home cooked style of the wrought iron pan and wooden chopping board.
And don't forget to ask for the Revolver Cafe photo album to complete the homely feel!

Embroidered & lace.

In love with her skirt (top)
& her jacket (bottom).

Continuing with my obsession of all things embroidered and lace.

Please Stay.

Please stay blue sky on a Sydney Spring day.

Benah Be Mine.

More beautiful pieces by Benah
& an even more beautiful campaign for their
Pewter & glass & crystal beads
twisting & dripping.

No parking.

Found this little scene on a backstreet in Balmain.

I wonder what her story is?
The overgrown flowering plants surrounding her,
the explicit note on the back window
(it speaks, 'f**k off with your rubbish' if you cannot read it)
the empty looking house...
